Elche, 14 de julio de 2025. El próximo mes de septiembre, del día 15 al 18, se celebrará en Elche el Congreso Internacional sobre Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas (International Congress on Neurodegenerative Diseases), que reunirá a investigadores de referencia mundial. El 15 de septiembre tendrá lugar el acto oficial de celebración del Día Mundial del Alzheimer —que se conmemora el 21 de septiembre—, con la participación del alcalde de Elche, D. Pablo Ruz, y otras autoridades institucionales, en el marco de la inauguración del congreso.
Este prestigioso evento anual, organizado conjuntamente por la Fundación Reina Sofía, el Centro de Investigación de Enfermedades Neurológicas (CIEN), el Ayuntamiento de Elche y la Sociedad Española de Neurología, ofrecerá una plataforma única para compartir los últimos avances en la investigación y tratamiento de estas enfermedades.
Con este Congreso la Fundación Reina Sofía refuerza su firme compromiso con la investigación del Alzheimer y otras enfermedades neurodegenerativas y la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas afectadas, línea estratégica principal en su labor social. Así, en 2024 la Fundación que preside S.M. la Reina Doña Sofía duplicó los recursos destinados a acciones solidarias y sociales, alcanzando un total de 4.239.467 euros, de los cuales 3.859.074 se han invertido en proyectos de investigación centrados en el Alzheimer y otras patologías neurodegenerativas.
Un evento de referencia internacional
Expertos de renombre mundial, investigadores y profesionales de la salud se darán cita en este evento de cuatro jornadas, que busca no solo promover el intercambio de conocimientos y experiencias, sino también impulsar la investigación y sensibilizar a la sociedad sobre la realidad de estas patologías.
El objetivo de la cumbre es la puesta en común de los avances que se están produciendo en dos áreas bien diferenciadas pero complementarias: los avances en el campo de las terapias en Alzheimer y otras enfermedades neurodegenerativas y las intervenciones en el ámbito sociosanitario. Cada uno de estos campos contará con un programa de conferencias y ponencias, dentro de un modelo traslacional en el que investigación y cuidados se conciben de manera integrada.
Para el alcalde de Elche, acoger esta cumbre internacional sobre el Alzheimer supone una gran oportunidad para la ciudad. “Estamos muy contentos e ilusionados con este congreso, que va a situar a Elche en el mapa de los encuentros internacionales. Pero, sobre todo, porque representa una excelente ocasión para seguir avanzando en la lucha contra una enfermedad que nos afecta a todos”, ha señalado.
Por su parte, la gerente de CIEN, María Ángeles Pérez, ha aprovechado para agradecer al alcalde y al equipo de gobierno su implicación con la organización de este Congreso y la hospitalidad que, en todo momento, han mostrado. También ha querido destacar el respaldo de los dos patrocinadores principales Novo Nordisk, y ESTEVE, cuyo compromiso ha sido esencial para hacer posible la celebración de este encuentro internacional.
- Desde Novo Nordisk han subrayado la importancia de apoyar iniciativas que contribuyan a mejorar la comprensión de la enfermedad de Alzheimer, una patología que puede ser difícil de diagnosticar y puede percibirse como parte del envejecimiento normal en fases tempranas.
- Por su parte, ESTEVE ha puesto en valor el papel de este congreso como punto de encuentro para impulsar el progreso científico en las enfermedades neurodegenerativas.
Además, el Dr. Pascual Sánchez-Juan, director científico de CIEN, ha destacado el hecho de dedicar un congreso a terapias en enfermedades neurodegenerativas, lo que hubiera sido impensable hace unos pocos años, y que es señal del dinamismo y los prometedores avances de este campo de investigación. Tenemos la suerte de contar con algunos de los mayores expertos del mundo que hablarán de terapias que están siendo evaluadas en ensayos clínicos, y profundizaremos en los mecanismos que las hacen potencialmente capaces de modificar el curso de estas enfermedades»
